Good afternoon First Grade Families,
What a great week! It was so nice to talk with all of you at our scheduled Parent/Teacher conferences. Please get in touch with me if you have any new questions or comments as we move forward in this school year.
Tomorrow we welcome into our classroom, Dayna Crough, a senior at Saugatuck High School. Dayna intends to pursue a career in teaching after graduation this spring. She will be working with us every day from 9:40-11:15AM.
March is Reading Month! Our school has lots of fun activities planned for your child. We are looking forward to a visit from a published author, reading buddies, mystery readers and other fun book related activities! *Mystery Readers: Please keep these visits a secret from your child/children :)

Language Arts Unit 4 Treasures Week 4
Story: The Lady in the Moon ~
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Comprehension Strategy: Realism and Fantasy; noticing these details within the story.
Phonics: -i, -ie, -igh, and kn=n and wr=r (ex. know and write)
*Words to Read and Spell:
night, light, right, lie, pie, high, eight, laugh, four, have, here, pretty
Writing: Handwriting, writing complete sentences, proper use of grammar and conventions and writing a personal narrative.
Math: Adding and Subtracting within 100 using place value knowledge. Drawing math pictures that represent the making of a new ten when adding two numbers together. Ex. 36+4=40. The 6 ones and 4 ones made a new ten.
Social Studies: How Do We Learn about Places?
- Human and Physical Characteristics of Places
- Why do some areas have similar features?
Science:
Asking Questions and Making Observations about the changing of the seasons.
